Director of Development, Kroc School of Peace Studies

The Kroc School of Peace Studies at Details in San Diego, San Diego County, seeks a full-time Director of Development to advance philanthropy and institutional relationships in support of our mission.

About This Position

As Director of Development for the Kroc School of Peace Studies, you will lead comprehensive fundraising and relationship-building initiatives that sustain the school's academic programs, student scholarships, and global peace-focused research. Working within a university context that values transformative education and community impact, you will cultivate partnerships with donors, foundations, and stakeholders who share our commitment to peace studies and international development.

What You'll Do

• Develop and implement strategic fundraising plans that align with the Kroc School's mission and the university's philanthropic priorities
• Build and maintain meaningful relationships with current and prospective donors across individual, foundation, and corporate giving channels
• Identify funding opportunities to support student scholarships, faculty research, and campus and international initiatives
• Manage donor cultivation, stewardship, and recognition programs to foster long-term partnerships
• Collaborate with university advancement, academic leadership, and development colleagues to coordinate efforts and maximize philanthropic impact
• Prepare proposals, grant applications, and funding presentations that compellingly articulate the school's vision and needs

Skills & Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree in nonprofit management, business administration, or related field preferred
• 5+ years of development, fundraising, or donor relations experience in a higher education or nonprofit environment
• Demonstrated success building donor relationships and closing major gifts
• Strategic thinking and ability to align fundraising priorities with institutional mission
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including ability to craft compelling narratives around philanthropic priorities
• Excellent organizational and project management capabilities
• Proficiency with donor database management and fundraising software
