Professor of Legal Writing

Capital University Law School seeks a full-time Professor of Legal Writing to teach in the Law School's Legal Research and Writing program, beginning in August 2026. Based in Grandview Heights, Franklin County, this faculty position offers the opportunity to develop first-year law students' foundational research, writing, and analytical skills.

About the Role

As Professor of Legal Writing at Capital University, you will lead instruction of the Law School's core Legal Research and Writing program. This essential course sequence equips first-year law students with the analytical, research, and communication skills central to legal practice. You will teach multiple sections of this two-semester, four-credit course each academic year while contributing to the pedagogical excellence of the Law School's curriculum.

Core Duties

• Teach at least one section of the first-year Legal Research and Writing course each semester
• Develop and refine course materials, assignments, and assessments aligned with legal writing pedagogy
• Provide substantive feedback on student writing and research methodology
• Maintain office hours and mentor students in legal writing and research skills
• Participate in faculty meetings and curriculum development initiatives
• Engage in scholarly work and professional development in legal education

What You Bring

• Juris Doctor degree and bar admission in a US jurisdiction
• Demonstrated expertise in legal writing, legal research, and legal communication
• Experience teaching law students or clear aptitude for legal instruction
• Commitment to student mentorship and educational excellence
• Strong organizational and communication abilities
• Ability to collaborate with faculty and engage in academic service
