Join the City and County of San Francisco as a Communications Specialist with the Agency for Human Rights, a full-time position based in San Francisco, California. About the Role
Working under the general supervision of the Communications Director, you'll be at the heart of the Agency for Human Rights' mission to enforce and advance civil rights protections. You'll develop comprehensive communications strategies that translate complex civil rights policies into clear, accessible messaging for diverse audiences. Your work will combine strategic planning, content creation, and digital engagement to build public awareness and drive community understanding of human rights protections and available resources.
What You'll Do
- Design and implement integrated communications campaigns supporting the Agency's civil rights enforcement and education initiatives
- Create digital content across multiple platforms including social media, email, and web to reach diverse San Francisco communities
- Develop public education materials on human rights protections, complaint processes, and available support services
- Evaluate campaign performance using analytics and feedback to refine messaging and improve audience engagement
- Collaborate with department leadership, community partners, and internal teams to ensure consistent, impactful communications
- Manage timely responses to emerging civil rights issues and community concerns through strategic messaging
What We're Looking For
- Demonstrated experience developing and executing communications strategies in a government, nonprofit, or mission-driven organization
- Proficiency in creating digital content and managing social media platforms
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to translate technical information for public audiences
- Experience working with diverse communities and understanding of civil rights or social justice issues
- Ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and collaborate across departments
- Familiarity with graphic design tools, content management systems, or digital analytics is a plus
