
Portledge School
Portledge School, an independent college preparatory institution in Locust Valley, Nassau County, is seeking a qualified special education teacher to join our faculty in a part-time capacity. This position offers the opportunity to support students with diverse learning needs within our inclusive educational community on Long Island.
About the Role
As a part-time special education teacher at Portledge School, you will provide targeted instruction and support to students with identified learning differences. Working collaboratively with general education faculty, administrators, and families, you will ensure that all learners achieve academic progress within our college preparatory curriculum.
What You'll Do
- Deliver specialized instruction aligned with individual student learning profiles and individualized education plans
- Collaborate with classroom teachers to support inclusive instructional practices and differentiated learning
- Assess student progress, maintain documentation, and communicate outcomes to families and colleagues
- Participate in IEP meetings and contribute to the development of educational plans and goals
- Employ evidence-based teaching strategies and assistive technologies to meet diverse learner needs
- Build supportive relationships with students and families to foster academic and social-emotional growth
What We're Looking For
- New York State certification or eligibility in special education
- Experience working with students across varied learning profiles and developmental needs
- Deep understanding of special education law, IEP development, and inclusive education practices
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with demonstrated ability to partner with families
- Commitment to creating an equitable and supportive learning environment for all students
- Flexibility and availability aligned with our school calendar and part-time schedule
