Community Specialist – Tri-County Area (McCormick, Edgefield, Saluda)

The State of South Carolina is seeking a full-time Community Specialist to serve the Tri-County Area comprising McCormick, Edgefield, and Saluda Counties. Based in Dutch Fork, South Carolina, this position offers an opportunity to directly impact the lives of young people and families across this region while building meaningful community partnerships that strengthen neighborhoods and support positive youth development.

About the Role

As a Community Specialist, you will serve as a bridge between the South Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice and the communities we serve. You will develop and maintain relationships with schools, community organizations, local leaders, and families across the tri-county area to advance the Department's mission of transforming young lives and creating stronger family systems. This role combines direct community engagement with coordination of resources and programs designed to support at-risk youth and their households.

What You'll Do

• Conduct outreach and engagement activities throughout McCormick, Edgefield, and Saluda Counties to build awareness of Department programs and services
• Partner with schools, nonprofits, government agencies, and community groups to coordinate youth-focused initiatives
• Assess community needs and barriers to youth success within the tri-county region
• Facilitate communication between families, youth, and Department staff to support rehabilitation and reintegration goals
• Organize and participate in community events, forums, and meetings that advance public understanding of juvenile justice reform
• Document outreach activities, outcomes, and community feedback to inform program development
• Serve as a visible and trusted presence in McCormick, Edgefield, and Saluda Counties to strengthen the Department's community relationships

• Knowledge of the McCormick, Edgefield, Saluda, or broader Richland County area is valued
• Reliable transportation required to travel throughout the tri-county region
