Self-Contained/Transitional Special Education Teacher (K-3), Lower Academy

Join RISE Prep Mayoral Academy in Woonsocket, Providence County, as a full-time Self-Contained/Transitional Special Education Teacher serving kindergarten through third-grade students in our Lower Academy. We're looking for a dedicated educator who combines instructional expertise with a commitment to meeting students where they are and supporting their growth toward greater independence and academic success.

About the Role

As a Self-Contained/Transitional Special Education Teacher, you'll guide a small group of K-3 learners with individualized education plans (IEPs), delivering differentiated instruction tailored to each student's learning profile, pace, and needs. You'll work within our Lower Academy structure, collaborating with general education colleagues, special education support staff, and families to create a cohesive learning environment that builds academic confidence and social-emotional skills.

What You'll Do

• Develop and deliver individualized instruction in reading, writing, and mathematics aligned with each student's IEP goals and Rhode Island learning standards
• Create an inclusive, structured classroom environment that encourages participation, risk-taking, and positive peer relationships
• Monitor student progress regularly through formal and informal assessments, adjusting instruction and interventions based on evidence
• Communicate consistently with families about their student's academic and behavioral progress, celebrating wins and identifying areas for support
• Collaborate with school leadership, special education coordinators, and general education teachers to ensure smooth transitions and coordinated services
• Implement evidence-based strategies for behavior support and social skills development
• Maintain accurate records, including IEP documentation and progress monitoring data

What We're Looking For

• Valid Rhode Island special education teaching certification or eligibility for provisional certification
• Strong foundation in elementary literacy and numeracy instruction
• Experience working with students with learning disabilities, developmental delays, or emotional/behavioral needs
• Skill in differentiating instruction and designing meaningful modifications and accommodations
• Commitment to high expectations for every student and belief that growth is achievable for all learners
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills with families and colleagues
• Adaptability, organizational strength, and a solutions-oriented mindset
