Kentucky State University, located in Frankfort, Franklin County, is seeking a Director of Philanthropy to lead our institution's fundraising and donor engagement strategy. This full-time position plays a critical role in advancing our mission and securing philanthropic support for student success and institutional growth.

About the Role

The Director of Philanthropy leads comprehensive fundraising initiatives and major donor relations for Kentucky State University. Working within the Office of Institutional Advancement and reporting to the Vice President, you will develop and execute integrated philanthropic strategies, cultivate relationships with donors at all levels, and drive resource development to support our academic and operational priorities.

This is a 12-month, exempt staff position with a standard 37.5-hour work week.

What You'll Do

  • Create and implement strategic fundraising plans and campaigns aligned with university priorities
  • Identify, cultivate, and solicit major gifts and leadership-level philanthropic support
  • Develop grant proposals and stewardship communications that resonate with donors
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with individual donors, alumni, foundations, and corporate partners
  • Collaborate with academic and administrative leaders to communicate the university's mission and impact
  • Manage donor databases and track philanthropic performance against goals
  • Lead fundraising events and donor engagement initiatives
  • Report on fundraising results and provide strategic recommendations to senior leadership

What We're Looking For

  • Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree in philanthropy, development, business, or related field preferred
  • 5+ years of professional fundraising or development experience at a higher education institution or comparable nonprofit organization
  • Proven track record securing major gifts and managing complex donor relationships
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills
  • Strategic thinking with ability to identify and capitalize on funding opportunities
  • Proficiency with development databases and donor management systems
  • Demonstrated commitment to mission-driven work and advancing educational access
