McAdams, a comprehensive land planning and civil engineering firm with offices across North Carolina, South Carolina, Texas, and Florida, is seeking a Project Manager to lead our civil engineering initiatives in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. This is a full-time, on-site position where you'll drive project success from concept through construction completion.

The Opportunity

We're looking for an experienced project leader who can orchestrate complex civil engineering deliverables while building lasting client partnerships. In this role, you'll direct multi-disciplinary teams, manage project budgets and timelines, and ensure every deliverable meets our exacting standards. Responsibilities

  • Lead all phases of civil engineering projects—from initial design through construction administration—serving as the central point of contact for clients, stakeholders, and internal teams
  • Manage project budgets, schedules, and resource allocation to ensure timely, cost-effective delivery
  • Oversee design development including site plans, utility infrastructure, stormwater management systems, grading plans, and site layouts, verifying compliance with technical and regulatory standards
  • Coordinate permitting processes with local agencies and municipalities, managing approvals and addressing regulatory compliance
  • Supervise and mentor project team members, subconsultants, and vendors, fostering clear communication and collaborative execution
  • Identify technical challenges and project risks early, implementing solutions that protect timelines and client satisfaction
  • Review all deliverables—design documents, construction drawings, reports, and specifications—to maintain quality and consistency
  • Build and sustain strong client relationships by delivering exceptional service and identifying opportunities for continued partnership
  • Support business development by identifying project opportunities, contributing to proposal development, and presenting to prospective clients
  • Develop junior engineers and project managers through mentoring and hands-on guidance
  • Prepare project status updates and documentation for stakeholders and internal records

What You Bring

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering Technology, or a closely related discipline
  • EI (Engineer Intern) certification required; PE (Professional Engineer) license or active progress toward licensure strongly preferred
  • Minimum five years of professional experience in civil site design, infrastructure engineering, or project management within a similar discipline
  • Proficiency with Civil 3D, AutoCAD, and standard project management software
  • Demonstrated strength in budget tracking, schedule management, and resource planning
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and experience with risk assessment and mitigation
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills; comfort leading meetings and presenting to diverse audiences
  • Proven ability to supervise and develop staff while maintaining a collaborative, supportive team dynamic
  • Track record of earning client trust and delivering measurable satisfaction
