The Opportunity
Torch operators are essential to our scrap metal recycling process in Land O Lakes. You'll use oxyacetylene torches and other cutting tools to separate and prepare metal materials for downstream processing. This hands-on role demands focus, physical strength, and a commitment to safety—qualities that are core to how we operate at United Scrap Metal. As part of our growing Pasco County facility, you'll work alongside experienced team members and contribute directly to our mission of sustainable metal recycling.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities
- Operate handheld and overhead torch-cutting equipment to cut and separate scrap metal
- Follow established cutting patterns and procedures to maximize material yield
- Maintain cutting equipment in safe working order and perform routine inspections
- Wear and properly use all required personal protective equipment
- Work at a consistent pace to meet production targets
- Communicate hazards and safety concerns to supervisors immediately
- Keep your work area organized and free of debris
Who We're Looking For
- High school diploma or equivalent; trade certification is a plus but not required
- Ability to lift and carry 50+ pounds regularly and work on your feet for extended periods
- Comfort working in a fast-paced industrial environment with heavy equipment
- Strong focus on safety and willingness to follow all protocols without exception
- Ability to take direction and work collaboratively with a team
- Prior torch-cutting, metal fabrication, or industrial experience is valued but we will train
