SingleStore is hiring a full-time, remote Support Engineer based in Portugal to serve as a hands-on technical expert who resolves the toughest database challenges enterprise customers face. This role leans heavily toward engineering, going well beyond conventional technical support.

About the Role

As a Support Engineer at SingleStore, you'll work on the frontline of critical customer issues, diving into database internals, memory allocators, Linux host configurations, and SQL query behavior to pinpoint root causes. Our customers handle some of the world's most demanding data workloads, and you'll partner with them to deepen their operational understanding of SingleStore while constantly learning new systems, tools, and technical concepts yourself. This is a remote position in Portugal with working hours of 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM Portugal time, plus participation in an on-call rotation that may include weekends and holidays.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver email and live technical support to enterprise customers, acting as the first responder for complex issues, bug diagnosis, and critical outage resolution.
  • Reproduce product defects, run QA, and file structured bug reports or feature requests with the relevant Engineering teams.
  • Coordinate with software developers, sales engineers, and technical account managers so every team stays informed about active customer issues.
  • Refine Support and Engineering workflows and tooling, and write internal run-books and public-facing documentation that boost team efficiency.
  • Make sure each customer interaction leaves a positive, lasting impression.

Qualifications

  • 4+ years in advanced, customer-facing technical support.
  • Hands-on experience with MySQL or MySQL-compatible databases (MariaDB, Aurora, and similar) plus SQL query optimization.
  • Strong sysadmin, QA, and testing skills, including comfort with Linux, system I/O utilization, network throughput, and parsing large log files.
  • Familiarity with Kubernetes and prior testing/QA experience.
  • Working knowledge of a scripting or programming language such as Python, Bash, or Go for quick problem-solving and navigating the codebase.
  • Understanding of distributed systems and cloud platforms like AWS and GCP; bonus points for spotting performance bottlenecks and eliminating single points of failure.
  • Excellent written and spoken English, with a talent for explaining technical concepts to varied audiences.
