Position Summary

The Speech Language Pathologist (Per Diem) (AFSCME) at BMC in Boston, Massachusetts, Massachusetts is responsible for evaluating and treating individuals with speech, language, cognitive-communication, voice, and swallowing needs. In this full-time role, you will create individualized plans, track measurable progress, and partner closely with physicians, nurses, and rehabilitation colleagues so patients receive coordinated, effective care. Work takes place on site in Boston, Massachusetts, Massachusetts and supports people across the continuum of recovery.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive speech-language pathology assessments to identify disorders of communication and swallowing.
  • Design, implement, and adjust evidence-based treatment plans tailored to each patient’s goals and functional status.
  • Provide direct intervention for speech production, language, cognitive-communication, voice, fluency, and dysphagia.
  • Document evaluations, treatment sessions, outcomes, and recommendations accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Educate patients, families, and caregivers on strategies, home programs, and progress expectations.
  • Collaborate with the interdisciplinary care team to integrate speech-language goals into the overall plan of care.
  • Maintain clinical schedules and caseload demands consistent with a per-diem AFSCME assignment while meeting quality and productivity standards.
  • Participate in clinical discussions, case reviews, and continuous improvement of therapy practices.

What We're Looking For

  • Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology or equivalent from an accredited program.
  • Current state licensure (or eligibility) to practice as a Speech Language Pathologist.
  • Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP) preferred or ability to obtain as required.
  • Solid clinical skills in assessment and treatment of communication and swallowing disorders across relevant age groups and settings.
  • Strong documentation, time-management, and interpersonal communication abilities.
  • Ability to work effectively in a busy hospital or ambulatory environment and adapt to per-diem scheduling needs.
  • Commitment to patient-centered care, cultural humility, and professional ethical standards.
