About the Role

This full-time position combines strategic leadership with hands-on research direction. You'll oversee the center's scientific agenda, develop measurement frameworks that prioritize responsible AI in education, and establish ETS as a thought leader in fair assessment practices. Your work will influence how schools, educators, and learners adopt AI-powered learning tools responsibly.

What You'll Do

• Direct research programs investigating responsible AI principles and their application to educational testing and assessment design
• Build and mentor multidisciplinary research teams including psychometricians, computer scientists, and learning scientists
• Develop and validate new measurement methodologies that address fairness, bias mitigation, and accessibility in AI-enhanced learning
• Establish partnerships with universities, school districts, and technology organizations to advance responsible assessment practices
• Publish findings and present research at national and international conferences
• Secure funding and manage budgets for center operations and research initiatives
• Ensure compliance with ethical standards and contribute to policy conversations on AI in education

What We're Looking For

• Doctorate in education, psychology, measurement science, computer science, or related discipline
• 10+ years of research leadership experience, including directing teams on complex projects
• Expert-level knowledge of educational assessment, psychometrics, or measurement methodology
• Familiarity with artificial intelligence, machine learning, or computational approaches in education
• Commitment to educational equity and fairness as core research values
• Strong publication record and demonstrated ability to communicate research to practitioners and policymakers
• Experience building research centers or scaling research initiatives from concept to impact
