Position Summary

As Senior Embedded Software Engineer at Puck in Worthing, SD, you will own technical direction for firmware and embedded software projects from concept through production. You will apply advanced judgment on architecture choices, real-time performance, and hardware integration while mentoring junior engineers and partnering closely with hardware and systems colleagues. Your Responsibilities

• Develop and execute unit, integration, and system-level tests; troubleshoot complex issues using debuggers, oscilloscopes, and logic analysis tools.
• Produce and review design documentation, coding standards, and technical specifications that support maintainable long-term codebases.
• Participate in code reviews, architecture discussions, and cross-functional planning to elevate overall software quality and elevate team capabilities.
• Stay current with embedded toolchains, real-time operating systems, and best practices to continuously improve reliability and performance.

Skills & Qualifications

• Proven senior-level experience developing production-quality embedded software or firmware, typically gained through several years in similar engineering roles.
• Strong proficiency in C and C++ for resource-constrained environments, plus familiarity with assembly where performance demands it.
• Solid understanding of real-time operating systems, interrupt handling, memory management, and low-level hardware interaction.
• Experience with common communication buses and protocols (such as I2C, SPI, UART, CAN, or Ethernet) and associated device drivers.
• Ability to interpret schematics, collaborate with electrical engineers, and use lab equipment for bring-up and validation.
• Excellent debugging skills, commitment to clean code, and clear written and verbal communication for technical audiences.
• Bachelor’s degree in computer engineering, electrical engineering, computer science, or equivalent practical experience is typically expected for this Senior Embedded Software Engineer level.
