What This Role Involves
The Senior Electrical Engineer role involves applying standard theories and practices within the electrical discipline. Responsibilities include specifying, ordering, and overseeing the installation of maintenance projects, as well as assisting with major capital projects. The engineer will troubleshoot complex electrical problems related to refinery maintenance and reliability. They are also responsible for defining program and documentation standards that ensure refinery reliability and equipment availability.
Key Responsibilities
- Design moderately complex electrical systems for capital projects, covering all electrical distribution equipment and substation specifications.
- Support Instrumentation/Electrical Maintenance Technicians with complex field problems during project execution. Assist in technical training and development of craftsmen’s skills for new technologies installed by the project group.
- Develop, review, and modify refinery electrical standards based on vendor recommendations and NFPA codes.
- Develop Turnaround work and ensure all scope is captured in the conceptual phase of projects.
- For new installations, provide necessary calculations/settings (e.g., UPS systems, motors, transformers, relays, related substation equipment).
- Act as an electrical subject matter expert for capital projects with an electrical scope, including those involving upgrading compressor controls and motor-operated valves.
- Review and approve electrical system studies up to 138 kV during all projects when appropriate. Make recommendations for improvements of system studies related to electrical components.
