School Safety Supervisor – Police Department

City of San Jose is hiring a School Safety Supervisor to lead safety initiatives across our school system. Based in San Jose, Santa Clara County, this full-time position reports to the Police Department and plays a critical role in protecting students, staff, and school communities.

About the Role

As School Safety Supervisor for the City of San Jose Police Department, you'll oversee the strategic planning, coordination, and delivery of school safety programs across multiple campuses. You'll work directly with school administrators, district leadership, and law enforcement partners to develop and implement comprehensive safety protocols that create secure learning environments.

What You'll Do

• Supervise and coordinate school safety staff, including school resource officers and safety personnel
• Develop, implement, and evaluate school safety policies, emergency response procedures, and threat assessment protocols
• Conduct regular safety assessments and audits of school facilities to identify vulnerabilities and recommend improvements
• Respond to and investigate safety incidents, accidents, and security concerns on school campuses
• Lead training programs for staff, students, and parents on emergency preparedness, safety awareness, and threat reporting
• Collaborate with school districts, educators, community organizations, and other police units to enhance campus security and student well-being
• Prepare incident reports, safety documentation, and compliance records
• Represent the Police Department at school board meetings, community events, and safety planning sessions

What We're Looking For

• Certification as a peace officer or equivalent law enforcement credential
• 5+ years of experience in law enforcement, with demonstrated supervisory or leadership experience
• Knowledge of school safety best practices, emergency management, and threat assessment frameworks
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with educators, families, and young people
• Ability to manage multiple priorities, respond to crises, and make sound decisions under pressure
• Valid California driver's license and a clean background record
• Commitment to community-oriented policing and evidence-based safety solutions
