Role Overview

The Fleet Operations team sits at the intersection of field engineering and manufacturing success. As a Robotics & Automation Project Engineer, you'll own both the immediate work of troubleshooting deployed systems and the strategic goal of strengthening reliability across the fleet. Working inside active manufacturing environments, you'll diagnose failures, engineer solutions, and partner cross-functionally to prevent recurrence. Your impact reaches directly to customer uptime, equipment longevity, and the reputation of Formic's automation solutions.

Core Duties

  • Troubleshoot equipment failures and implement corrective actions that restore production quickly
  • Design preventative and predictive maintenance strategies to maximize system uptime
  • Lead fleet-wide reliability improvement projects, including hardware and software enhancements
  • Analyze system performance data and equipment diagnostics to identify failure patterns
  • Provide remote troubleshooting support and triage complex issues to field teams
  • Execute preventative and corrective maintenance activities within your region
  • Coordinate with product and engineering teams to standardize configurations and improve repeatability
  • Document system configurations, test results, and equipment modification records
  • Escalate and resolve complex technical issues requiring fleet-level expertise
  • Mentor field technicians on diagnostic methods and system care best practices
  • Maintain compliance with safety regulations, quality standards, and industry specifications
  • Develop partnerships with equipment vendors to strengthen technical support and parts sourcing

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of hands-on experience in manufacturing automation or industrial robotics settings
  • Demonstrated proficiency in programming PLCs, industrial robots, and control system platforms
  • Solid working knowledge of robotic equipment, actuator systems, and automated production machinery
  • Track record diagnosing mechanical, electrical, and control system faults
  • Ability to read electrical schematics and interpret technical drawings accurately
  • Prior experience supporting production environments where equipment uptime is mission-critical
  • Strong problem-solving capability and systematic troubleshooting methodology
  • Clear written and oral communication skills
  • Capability to work independently and effectively within cross-functional teams
  • Willingness to travel up to 50% of the time for on-site support activities
  • Valid driver's license and local travel capability

Additional experience that strengthens your candidacy includes work in high-volume manufacturing environments, standardizing automation systems across multiple deployed locations, or exposure to data-driven maintenance and predictive monitoring approaches.
