Rhode Island School for the Deaf is seeking a full-time Outreach Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing in Providence to deliver direct instruction and specialized support to students with hearing loss in mainstream public school settings.
About the Role
This contractual teaching position places you within our Outreach Program, which serves deaf and hard of hearing students as they navigate mainstream public education. You'll be the dedicated specialist these students rely on to address their unique communication, academic, and hearing-related needs—ensuring they have the tools and support to thrive alongside hearing peers.
What You'll Do
- Provide direct instructional support and remediation to students with hearing loss in mainstream classrooms
- Monitor individual academic progress and adjust teaching strategies based on student needs and abilities
- Address hearing-related barriers that impact classroom engagement and learning outcomes
- Coordinate with mainstream school staff to implement appropriate accommodations and modifications
- Design and deliver differentiated lessons aligned to each student's hearing level and learning profile
- Maintain comprehensive student progress records and case documentation
- Build partnerships with families to support student development and communicate achievement
What We're Looking For
- Valid certification or licensure as a Teacher of the Deaf or equivalent special education credential
- Proven experience working with deaf and hard of hearing students in educational settings
- Knowledge of deaf culture, communication methods, and assistive technologies
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate with diverse school teams
- Expertise adapting curriculum to varied hearing levels and learning styles
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Dedication to empowering deaf and hard of hearing students to succeed academically
