UW Health is hiring a Registered Nurse (RN) to join our Orthopedics department in Fitchburg, Dane County, Wisconsin. This full-time staff position (90% FTE) offers $40–60 per hour compensation with ongoing employment in a respected healthcare system.
About the Role
As a Registered Nurse in our Orthopedics specialty, you will deliver expert patient care across a wide range of orthopedic conditions and surgical interventions. This nursing role is essential to supporting patient recovery, managing pain and mobility, and collaborating with surgeons, therapists, and other clinical professionals. You'll work within a team-oriented environment dedicated to excellent patient outcomes and evidence-based nursing practice in a specialized orthopedic setting.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive bedside nursing care for orthopedic patients, pre- and post-operatively
- Perform clinical assessments, monitor vital signs, and identify changes in patient status
- Administer medications and manage pain control protocols per physician orders
- Support patient mobility, positioning, and coordination with physical and occupational therapy
- Maintain accurate and timely medical records and care documentation
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, and the interdisciplinary care team
- Ensure patient safety and a clean, safe care environment
Skills & Qualifications
- Current, valid Wisconsin Registered Nurse (RN) license
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Nursing
- Clinical nursing knowledge and strong assessment skills
- Patient advocacy and communication excellence
- Flexibility to work evening and night shifts, including every third weekend rotation and holiday schedules
- Ability to lift, transfer, and safely assist patients
- Orthopedic or surgical nursing experience a plus
