Merck is hiring a Regional Medical Scientific Director for our Immunology and Gastrointestinal therapeutic area, based in Cammack Village. This full-time position offers the opportunity to lead medical affairs strategy for inflammatory bowel disease across the Mid-Atlantic region.
About the Role
As a Regional Medical Scientific Director, you'll serve as a credentialed medical science liaison bridging clinical medicine, research, and commercial strategy. You'll drive our strategic operating priorities by translating complex immunology data into actionable insights for healthcare providers and key opinion leaders in your territory.
What You'll Do
- Develop and execute medical science engagement strategies targeting gastroenterologists, immunologists, and specialty care centers across the Mid-Atlantic
- Conduct evidence-based discussions about inflammatory bowel disease pathology, immunological mechanisms, and therapeutic options
- Build and maintain trusted relationships with physician leaders, hospital systems, and medical centers
- Synthesize clinical data and research findings to support provider education and informed clinical decision-making
- Contribute to field-based market intelligence and competitive insights
- Support regulatory compliance and ensure all medical communications adhere to company and industry standards
- Collaborate cross-functionally with sales, marketing, and medical teams to align regional strategy
What We're Looking For
- Advanced degree required: PhD, PharmD, DNP, or MD
- Demonstrated expertise in immunology, gastroenterology, or inflammatory bowel disease
- Strong scientific communication skills and ability to engage healthcare professionals at the director level
- Strategic mindset with focus on continuous improvement and business growth
- Travel capability within assigned geographic region (Mid-Atlantic states)
- Knowledge of pharmaceutical industry, healthcare delivery, and regulatory frameworks
- Self-directed work style with excellent organizational and project management skills
