What This Role Involves
Spend your summer working on conservation of New Zealand's rarest endemic breeding bird. This full-time, fixed-term role based in Auckland, Warkworth, or Whangārei from September 2026 - February 2027 is an opportunity to contribute significantly to the preservation and protection of a unique species.
Your Responsibilities
- Conduct fieldwork for monitoring and protecting the New Zealand Fairy Tern (Tara iti)
- Participate in conservation efforts, including habitat management and restoration activities
- Engage with local communities to raise awareness about the importance of bird conservation
- Document observations and findings for reporting purposes
What We're Looking For
- Experience or qualifications in wildlife conservation, ecology, or a related field
- A strong passion for nature and conservation efforts
- Excellent communication skills to engage with the public and collaborate with other organizations
- Able to work independently and as part of a team under challenging conditions
- Valid New Zealand driver's license (due to potential travel within the region)
