About the Role
As our Pastry Banquet Cook, you'll be the hands behind elegant desserts that define our guests' dining experiences. Working mornings in our pastry kitchen, you'll prepare, plate, and present desserts for The Umstead Hotel & Spa's signature banquet events. You'll collaborate closely with our Pastry Chef and culinary team, upholding exacting standards for quality, sanitation, and professional excellence while maintaining an organized, efficient workspace.
What You'll Do
- Prep and plate desserts for scheduled banquet events according to chef specifications and presentation standards
- Follow established recipes and plating techniques while maintaining consistent quality across all service
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe pastry workstation, adhering to food safety and sanitation protocols
- Operate pastry equipment competently and keep stations organized for seamless event service
- Support the Pastry Chef's vision by delivering desserts that reflect the hotel's commitment to excellence
- Communicate effectively with the kitchen and service teams to coordinate timing and special requests
- Perform setup and breakdown tasks before and after banquet service
What We're Looking For
- Experience in a pastry or baking role, preferably in a hotel, catering, or banquet kitchen
- Strong understanding of food safety, sanitation, and kitchen safety practices
- Ability to follow recipes and plating instructions with precision and consistency
- Comfort working in a fast-paced, high-volume kitchen environment
- Excellent teamwork and communication skills
- Physical ability to stand for extended periods, lift up to 50 lbs, and work in a temperature-controlled kitchen
- Attention to detail and pride in delivering polished, professional results
