Gainwell Technologies is hiring a remote Preferred Drug List (PDL) Pharmacist to drive clinically sound, cost-effective formulary strategy for Medicaid Fee-for-Service programs. If you blend deep pharmacy expertise with operational and financial acumen, this full-time opportunity supporting clients across the United States is built for you.

About the Role

Sitting within the Gainwell Pricing and Contracting team and supporting the Pharmacy Center of Excellence (COE), the PDL Pharmacist owns the clinical, operational, and financial health of the Preferred Drug List. You will lead the build-out, upkeep, and growth of the PDL, making certain that claims adjudication and member-facing communications consistently mirror the most current decisions. The heart of the position is shaping a formulary that is both medically appropriate and fiscally disciplined.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as the client's main contact for every facet of PDL upkeep, growth, and transformation, offering subject-matter expertise to resolve issues.
  • Lead recurring client meetings to walk through clinical, operational, and financial PDL impacts.
  • Track drug-file activity — new launches, generic entries, discontinuations, shortages, pricing shifts, and Medicaid Drug Rebate Program (MDRP) updates.
  • Build prior authorization criteria, code drug statuses on the PDL coding file, and flag therapeutic class reviews (TCRs) for creation or refresh.
  • Compare net cost using state pricing methodologies alongside federal and state supplemental rebates to guide strategy recommendations.
  • Draft agendas, minutes, and published PDL materials, and present complex clinical findings at Pharmacy and Therapeutics (P&T) Committee meetings.
  • Support adjacent financial initiatives such as value-based agreements (VBAs), volume-based arrangements, the Brand over Generic program, and the preferred diabetic supplies program.
  • Serve as liaison between internal teams and outside pharmacy partners, and maintain desk-level procedures (DLPs) for continuity.

Qualifications

  • PharmD or equivalent professional experience.
  • 3+ years in pharmacy benefits management or managed care.
  • Required background in Medicaid, healthcare technology, and/or pharmacy analytics.
  • Proven success managing formularies across clinical, operational, and financial dimensions.
  • Strong public speaking, written communication, and stakeholder-management skills.
  • Solid PC and business software proficiency; ability to organize project plans and agendas.
  • Commitment to confidentiality and full HIPAA compliance.
