Long Term Special Education Substitute Teacher

Regional School District 12 is seeking an experienced Special Education Teacher for a full-time, long-term substitute position at Burnham School. This role runs from August 19 through December 23, 2026, supporting elementary students with diverse learning needs in our Connecticut school community.

About the Role

As our long-term Special Education Substitute Teacher, you'll deliver direct instruction and classroom management for elementary learners receiving special education services. Your work day runs from 8:30 a.m. to 3:45 p.m., providing consistent, high-quality instruction during this critical period of the school year.

What You'll Do

• Deliver targeted instruction aligned with each student's Individualized Education Program (IEP)
• Manage classroom behavior and create an inclusive, supportive learning environment
• Adapt lesson materials and teaching strategies to meet varied academic and social-emotional needs
• Communicate with parents, general education teachers, and specialists about student progress
• Document student performance and maintain accurate records
• Collaborate with school staff to support integrated learning across grade levels
• Foster positive relationships with students to build confidence and engagement

What We're Looking For

• Valid Connecticut Teacher Certification in Special Education
• Demonstrated experience teaching elementary-age students with IEPs
• Strong classroom management and communication skills
• Ability to differentiate instruction for learners at multiple levels
• Flexibility and responsiveness to student needs in a fast-paced school environment
• Commitment to inclusive, trauma-informed teaching practices
