Industrial Electric Manufacturing is hiring a Manufacturing Training Specialist to lead workforce development and capability building across our Surrey, British Columbia production facilities. This full-time, onsite role reports to the Learning Program Manager and plays a pivotal role in ensuring our manufacturing teams are skilled, certified, and equipped to perform complex work safely and to the highest quality standards.
About the Role
As our Manufacturing Training Specialist, you'll design and deliver evidence-based training programmes that build hands-on competency across our production operations. Your work bridges technical expertise and adult learning principles, translating complex manufacturing processes into clear, practical learning experiences. Partnering closely with Production, Engineering, Quality, and Health & Safety leadership, you'll create targeted training initiatives that strengthen workforce capability, support continuous improvement, and reinforce our commitment to operational excellence and safe work practices across wiring, assembly, fabrication, inspection, and standardised work areas. This position is based in our Surrey facilities with occasional travel to other IEM locations (up to 10% of your time), including periodic visits to the United States as required.
What You'll Do
- Design and facilitate classroom, on-the-floor, and one-on-one technical training sessions in areas including wiring techniques, assembly standards, tool operation, inspection protocols, and standardised work practices.
- Assess employee competency through structured practical evaluations and knowledge assessments prior to task qualification or certification approval.
- Use training evaluation frameworks and performance data (quality metrics, learner feedback) to measure effectiveness and refine training delivery, content, and outcomes.
- Collaborate with Production Managers and cross-functional teams to identify skill gaps, prioritise training initiatives, and align learning objectives with production goals and regulatory requirements.
- Reinforce safety culture, quality standards, and standardised work practices across all training interactions on the production floor.
- Maintain accurate training records, manage Learning Management System (LMS) administration, and ensure compliance with company and regulatory documentation requirements.
Who We're Looking For
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering Technology, Manufacturing, Education, Organisational Development, or a related discipline—or equivalent technical training combined with practical manufacturing experience.
- Minimum 3 years of direct experience in manufacturing or industrial settings, with involvement in wiring, assembly, fabrication, or quality control operations.
- Demonstrated competency reading engineering drawings, schematics, and standardised work instructions.
- Proven experience delivering instructor-led, hands-on, or technical training in a production environment.
- Strong English communication skills (verbal and written) with the ability to explain complex technical content to diverse audiences.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Minimum 3 months of employment tenure in your current department.
- Preferred: Learning Management System (LMS) experience, knowledge of quality systems and inspection standards, familiarity with Lean Manufacturing or continuous improvement methodologies, and experience working with electrical distribution equipment.
