Histotechnologist – Surgical Pathology – PT – Days

Join the pathology team at University of Mississippi Medical Center as a part-time histotechnologist supporting surgical pathology operations in Jackson, Hinds County. This position provides an opportunity to deliver essential laboratory services in a leading medical institution while maintaining a flexible schedule focused on day shifts.

About the Role

You'll play a critical role in the surgical pathology laboratory, preparing and processing tissue specimens that directly support physician diagnoses and patient care. Working in a fast-paced healthcare environment, you'll master both routine procedures and specialized techniques that require precision, attention to detail, and a commitment to quality standards that impact patient outcomes.

What You'll Do

• Process surgical specimens and tissue samples following established protocols and quality standards
• Prepare microscope slides through staining, embedding, and sectioning procedures
• Operate and maintain histology laboratory equipment, including microtomes and automated processors
• Document specimen tracking and maintain accurate laboratory records and chain of custody
• Perform quality control checks to ensure slide preparation meets diagnostic standards
• Collaborate with pathologists and medical technologists to support timely case turnaround
• Follow safety procedures and maintain a clean, organized laboratory workspace
• Support the surgical pathology workflow during day shift hours

What We're Looking For

• High school diploma or equivalent required
• Certification as a histotechnician (HTL or HT) through ASCP, ASLCP, or equivalent credentialing body, or eligibility to obtain certification
• Knowledge of tissue processing techniques, histological procedures, and laboratory safety standards
• Ability to work accurately with repetitive tasks while maintaining quality standards
• Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize multiple specimens
• Reliable attendance and ability to work a consistent part-time day schedule
• Willingness to follow established protocols and attention to microscopic detail
