The National Laboratory of the Rockies is seeking a motivated graduate student for a year-round Graduate Internship in Digital Twin Development for Biorefinery Processes, based at our Eldorado Springs facility in Boulder County, Colorado. This full-time, on-site role offers hands-on experience building advanced simulation models that advance the future of clean energy systems.
About the Role
As a Graduate (Year-Round) Intern focused on Digital Twin Development for Biorefinery Processes, you will help design and refine virtual representations of biorefinery operations. Working alongside scientists and engineers at the National Laboratory of the Rockies, you'll apply computational modeling to capture, predict, and optimize complex bioenergy conversion systems. This is a fixed-term intern position scheduled at 40 hours per week.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and validate digital twin models that simulate biorefinery process behavior.
- Translate experimental and operational data into accurate, dynamic process representations.
- Support analysis of conversion pathways to improve efficiency and performance.
- Collaborate with research staff to test, document, and iterate on modeling approaches.
- Contribute to ongoing energy systems research and development initiatives at the laboratory.
Qualifications
- Current enrollment in a graduate degree program in a relevant engineering or scientific discipline.
- Background or strong interest in process modeling, simulation, or digital twin technologies.
- Familiarity with biorefinery, bioenergy, or chemical process concepts.
- Ability to commit to a full-time, year-round schedule of 40 hours per week.
- Availability to work on-site in Eldorado Springs, Boulder County, Colorado.
