Optima Dermatology is hiring a full-time Medical Assistant in Salem, NH to deliver clinical support in our expanding dermatology and medical aesthetics group. This hands-on Medical Assistant role centers on patient preparation, procedure assistance, care coordination, and office efficiency for visits and treatments.
Role Overview
In this full-time Medical Assistant position at Optima Dermatology in Salem, NH, you will keep exam areas ready, help patients through appointments, assist clinicians with office procedures, manage specimen handling and external testing, arrange referrals and diagnostics, handle insurance pre-authorizations, maintain supplies and inventory, and uphold confidentiality while collaborating closely with providers and managers. Responsibilities
- Ready examination areas by cleaning between visits, restocking materials, and arranging procedure setups as required.
- Bring patients to rooms, measure vital signs as needed, ask about visit purpose and current medications, take temperature when indicated, explain how to prepare for the exam, and finish routine paperwork.
- Support physicians and other clinicians during patient care steps such as removing sutures, extracting warts or moles, and conducting other minor procedures.
- Package laboratory specimens correctly, complete required forms, reach out to testing facilities when needed, deliver results to the physician before notifying the patient, and file the records.
- Arrange both in-house and off-site diagnostic tests or procedures by giving patients clear preparation guidance, booking the slots, and documenting ordered services plus final results.
- Arrange specialist referrals by contacting offices, securing appointments, and transmitting any requested test data.
- Obtain lab, imaging, and emergency department reports from hospitals and other sources; call pharmacies for prescription authorizations; relay orders to nursing facilities; share test outcomes with patients; and return patient calls with physician guidance.
- Secure pre-authorizations for medications and referrals by speaking with insurers, documenting the approval codes, and tracking every referral.
- Conduct manual counts of medications, verify dates, request replacements when low, and restock back-office materials as needed.
- Sanitize exam and lab areas each day and tidy the reception space.
- Carry out every task while protecting confidentiality and safety for patients, staff, and clinicians, and share observations with the physician and office manager that help the practice improve.
What You Bring
- Shown skill with vital signs, injections and immunizations, chart documentation, exam room setup, handling infectious waste, sterile methods, and routine lab work plus specimen collection.
- Spoken communication strengths for building patient rapport and discussing care plans with patients, families, and pharmacies.
- Written skills suited to accurate charting and recordkeeping.
- Proven handling of patient confidentiality.
- Ability to function well alongside peers in a team.
- Knowledge and skills that match the age-related needs of the patients served.
- Licensure as a medical assistant or an additional nursing credential.
- At least one year of prior experience in a dermatology medical office preferred.
- Prior use of Modernizing Medicine / EMA electronic medical records highly preferred.
