Role Overview In this full-time Medical Assistant position at Optima Dermatology in Salem, NH, you will keep exam areas ready, help patients through appointments, assist clinicians with office procedures, manage specimen handling and external testing, arrange referrals and diagnostics, handle insurance pre-authorizations, maintain supplies and inventory, and uphold confidentiality while collaborating closely with providers and managers. Support physicians and other clinicians during patient care steps such as removing sutures, extracting warts or moles, and conducting other minor procedures. Package laboratory specimens correctly, complete required forms, reach out to testing facilities when needed, deliver results to the physician before notifying the patient, and file the records. Arrange both in-house and off-site diagnostic tests or procedures by giving patients clear preparation guidance, booking the slots, and documenting ordered services plus final results. Arrange specialist referrals by contacting offices, securing appointments, and transmitting any requested test data. Obtain lab, imaging, and emergency department reports from hospitals and other sources; call pharmacies for prescription authorizations; relay orders to nursing facilities; share test outcomes with patients; and return patient calls with physician guidance. Secure pre-authorizations for medications and referrals by speaking with insurers, documenting the approval codes, and tracking every referral.
