Tri-State Generation and Transmission Association, Inc. is recruiting an Engineer Member System Planning professional (I, II, III, or Senior level) for our Westminster, Adams County office. This full-time position offers the opportunity to shape power infrastructure across our service territory while supporting the electric cooperatives we serve.
What This Role Involves
You'll provide comprehensive planning, coordination, and engineering support for the development and optimization of Tri-State's transmission system and delivery facilities. Working closely with our Member Systems—the electric cooperatives we partner with—you'll conduct power system analysis, develop strategic plans, and deliver technical guidance that keeps our region's electrical infrastructure resilient and efficient. This role balances strategic long-term planning with hands-on technical problem-solving.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities
- Lead transmission system planning studies and analysis to support Tri-State operations and Member System requirements
- Coordinate with Member Systems on their distribution and transmission needs, translating business objectives into technical recommendations
- Perform power system modeling, contingency analysis, and reliability assessments
- Collaborate with other departments and utility partners on joint planning initiatives
- Review and evaluate transmission facility designs, upgrades, and capital projects
- Provide technical engineering support and guidance to internal stakeholders and external partners
- Prepare technical reports, documentation, and presentations for planning committees and leadership
Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or a closely related field
- Professional Engineer (PE) license or eligibility to obtain one
- Demonstrated experience in transmission system planning or power system analysis
- Proficiency with power systems software tools and modeling platforms
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work collaboratively across departments and with external utility partners
- Knowledge of North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) standards and grid planning principles is valued
