Role Overview

The Director of Major Gifts reports to the Chief Philanthropy Officer and is responsible for building and managing a growing pipeline of major individual donors and new foundation funders. This role serves as a strategic part of the advancement team, contributing significantly to the organization's fundraising goals.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute comprehensive strategies to identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward major individual donors and new foundations.
  • Build strong relationships with key stakeholders, including board members, volunteers, and community leaders.
  • Manage a portfolio of high-potential prospects and ensure timely follow-up and reporting on donor engagement activities.
  • Collaborate with the advancement team to align major gift strategies with overall organizational goals.
  • Provide regular reports to the Chief Philanthropy Officer on progress, challenges, and opportunities in the major gifts program.

Who We're Looking For

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced professional who can effectively manage high-level donor relationships and drive significant fundraising success. Key qualifications include:

  • A minimum of 7 years of experience in major gift fundraising, preferably within the non-profit sector.
  • Proven ability to identify and cultivate major donors through strategic planning and relationship building.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with a focus on persuasive and empathetic engagement.
  • Experience managing a portfolio of high-potential prospects and a proven track record in closing significant gifts.
  • A deep understanding of the San Francisco philanthropic landscape and a network of key stakeholders.
