Director, DMPK- Pharmacokinetics & Clinical Pharmacology

Join Ionis as Director of Drug Metabolism, Pharmacokinetics & Clinical Pharmacology, leading our DMPK strategy in Carlsbad, San Diego County. This full-time leadership role shapes the scientific foundation for our RNA-targeted medicine development.

About the Role

As Director of DMPK, you'll lead a function critical to bringing innovative medicines to patients. You'll oversee pharmacokinetic studies, clinical pharmacology assessments, and drug metabolism investigations that inform our drug development programs. This position combines hands-on scientific leadership with strategic oversight of our DMPK initiatives across multiple therapeutic programs.

What You'll Do

• Direct pharmacokinetic and drug metabolism studies, ensuring scientific rigor and regulatory compliance
• Lead clinical pharmacology evaluations that support IND applications, clinical trials, and regulatory submissions
• Manage and mentor a team of DMPK scientists and pharmacologists
• Collaborate with drug discovery, development, and clinical teams to define DMPK strategies
• Stay current with evolving regulatory guidance and scientific best practices in pharmacokinetics
• Contribute to the advancement of Ionis' RNA-targeted medicine platform

What We're Looking For

• Advanced degree (Ph.D. or M.D.) with significant experience in drug metabolism and pharmacokinetics
• Leadership experience managing scientists and directing DMPK functions in biotech or pharmaceutical settings
• Deep knowledge of pharmacokinetic principles, drug-drug interactions, and clinical pharmacology
• Proven track record supporting IND applications and clinical regulatory submissions
• Strong scientific communication skills and ability to influence cross-functional teams
• Experience with or knowledge of RNA-targeted or novel therapeutic modalities is a plus
