Fort Smith Public Schools is hiring a Dean of Students for Southside High School in Fort Smith, Sebastian County, Arkansas. This is a full-time, exempt position reporting to the Principal, with a 200-day contract beginning July 27, 2026.
About the Role
The Dean of Students provides essential leadership in creating and maintaining a positive, safe school environment where students can succeed. You will oversee student discipline, behavior management, attendance, and the school's student support services, working directly with administration, teaching staff, counselors, and families to foster an inclusive school community.
What You'll Do
- Manage and investigate student conduct matters, ensuring fair and consistent application of discipline policies
- Work with the Principal to develop and enforce discipline procedures compliant with Arkansas and district standards
- Monitor student attendance, engagement, and academic progress to identify and support struggling students
- Coordinate between classrooms, counseling services, and parent communication on student welfare issues
- Lead school culture initiatives, student activities, and campus-wide programs that strengthen community
- Maintain comprehensive records of disciplinary actions and student interactions
- Collaborate with school safety personnel and community stakeholders on school security and prevention
- Connect students with resources and interventions for academic, behavioral, and social support
What We're Looking For
- Current Arkansas educator licensure
- Administrator licensure (preferred)
- Master's degree in Education, Educational Leadership, or related field
- Experience in student discipline, behavior management, or educational administration
- Strong written and verbal communication abilities
- Commitment to supporting all students regardless of background or ability
- Ability to balance competing priorities in a fast-paced school environment
