CPS Investigations & Assessments Senior Specialist

Loudoun County Government is seeking a dedicated CPS Investigations & Assessments Senior Specialist to join its child protective services team in Leesburg, Loudoun County. This full-time, on-site role offers an experienced social services professional the chance to safeguard vulnerable children and strengthen families across a thriving Northern Virginia community.

About the Role

As a CPS Investigations & Assessments Senior Specialist, you will lead and conduct thorough investigations and family assessments in response to reports of child abuse and neglect. Working from our Leesburg offices, you'll apply advanced casework expertise, sound judgment, and compassion to determine the safety, well-being, and ongoing needs of children throughout Loudoun County.

Key Responsibilities

• Carry out timely investigations and assessments of alleged child maltreatment, gathering and evaluating evidence to reach informed dispositions.
• Interview children, caregivers, and collateral contacts while documenting findings accurately and in line with state and county standards.
• Develop safety plans and connect families with appropriate community resources and support services.
• Collaborate with law enforcement, schools, healthcare providers, and the courts on complex or high-risk cases.
• Provide guidance and mentorship to less experienced caseworkers as a senior member of the team.
• Maintain organized, court-ready records and prepare reports and testimony as required.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated experience in child protective services, social work, or a closely related human services field.
• Strong knowledge of child welfare practices, investigative techniques, and relevant regulations.
• Excellent interviewing, assessment, and crisis-management skills, with the ability to make sound decisions under pressure.
• Clear written and verbal communication for documentation, collaboration, and court proceedings.
• Capacity to handle emotionally challenging situations with professionalism and empathy.
