About the Role
As a Budget Specialist at Texas A&M, you'll play a critical part in ensuring the financial health and operational efficiency of the College of Innovation and Design. You'll work closely with faculty and administrative leadership to develop, monitor, and maintain departmental budgets while ensuring compliance with university and state financial regulations.
What You'll Do
- Prepare annual budget proposals, forecasts, and revisions for departmental operations
- Analyze spending patterns and variances to identify trends and recommend financial adjustments
- Reconcile accounts, process financial transactions, and maintain detailed budget documentation
- Monitor expenditures against approved budgets and alert leadership to potential overages
- Prepare reports and financial statements for department chairs, deans, and university administration
- Support grant budgeting, fund management, and special project allocations
- Assist with budget training and guidance for faculty and staff as needed
- Ensure accurate record-keeping and compliance with institutional financial policies
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or related field (or equivalent professional experience)
- Experience with budget development, financial analysis, or accounting functions
- Proficiency with spreadsheets, database systems, and financial software
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and financial documentation
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Ability to communicate clearly with non-financial staff and leadership
- Understanding of higher education financial processes (preferred)
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and within a team environment
