North Thurston Public Schools is hiring a full-time School Counselor at Chinook Middle School in Lacey, Thurston County for the 2026-27 academic year — a one-year leave replacement supporting student success through counseling, guidance, and advocacy.
About the Role
This is a 1.0 FTE, certificated leave-replacement counseling position beginning with the 2026-27 school year and running for one year only. Serving as a member of the educational staff associate team at Chinook Middle School, the School Counselor reports directly to the building Principal and belongs to the NTEA bargaining unit. The role is classified as exempt under FLSA and is based on-site in Lacey, Washington.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver a comprehensive counseling program that promotes the academic, social, emotional, and career development of middle school students.
- Provide individual and small-group counseling to help students navigate personal challenges and build resilience.
- Partner with teachers, families, and administrators to identify student needs and coordinate appropriate support.
- Guide students through course planning, goal setting, and preparation for high school transitions.
- Maintain accurate records and uphold professional and ethical standards consistent with district expectations.
Qualifications
- Valid Washington State certification as a School Counselor (Educational Staff Associate).
- Background in school counseling, guidance, or a closely related field appropriate to a middle school setting.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills for working with students, staff, and families.
