Build the skills for this role
Prioritise vehicle inspection, load securement, documentation accuracy, and compliant log-keeping. CERTS lists FMCSA CDL & ELDT requirements (cost: free info)—useful reference for heavy-vehicle standards; New Zealand (nationwide) licensing and company induction still govern local practice.
Free & low-cost learning resources
Be ready to walk through pre-trip inspections, how you verify cargo is secure, handling incomplete paperwork, and logging hours/service status. Tie answers to construction-site deliveries and aggregate or roadworks environments where Fulton Hogan operates.
Strong fit if you want hands-on heavy driving for a large NZ civil and road contractor, with discipline around safety checks, loads, and records more than office-based work.
