Principal Data Engineer

The Opportunity

As Principal Data Engineer at Everfi, you will shape scalable data platforms that support critical decision-making and product needs. This full-time Principal Data Engineer position allows seasoned professionals to influence strategy and execution in a remote environment while delivering high-impact results for Everfi.

Key Responsibilities

• Architect and implement robust end-to-end data pipelines and storage solutions that handle large-scale ingestion, transformation, and delivery.
• Lead the design of reliable, high-performance data infrastructure suitable for analytics and operational use cases.
• Establish and enforce engineering standards, data quality practices, and observability across remote teams.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to translate business requirements into scalable technical designs and roadmaps.
• Mentor junior and mid-level data engineers while reviewing code, pipelines, and system designs for excellence.
• Optimize performance, cost, and reliability of cloud-based data platforms and batch or streaming workflows.
• Evaluate and introduce new tools and patterns that improve the overall data engineering practice at Everfi.

Qualifications

• Extensive experience as a data engineer progressing to principal or staff level, with proven ownership of complex systems.
• Deep expertise building and operating large-scale ETL/ELT pipelines using modern data technologies.
• Strong proficiency in Python or equivalent languages, advanced SQL, and distributed processing frameworks.
• Hands-on experience with cloud data services and infrastructure-as-code practices for remote and distributed environments.
• Demonstrated ability to lead technical initiatives, influence architecture decisions, and guide cross-functional teams.
• Solid understanding of data modeling, governance, security, and reliability for production systems.
• Excellent communication and problem-solving skills suited to a full-time remote Principal Data Engineer role supporting United States operations.
