BMC is hiring a Registered Nurse, Pre-Op/PACU (36 hours, Evenings) for its Boston location. This full-time evening position focuses on high-quality perioperative nursing support for patients preparing for and recovering from procedures.

The Registered Nurse, Pre-Op/PACU (36 hours, Evenings) at BMC in Boston delivers specialized care across preoperative preparation and post-anesthesia recovery phases. You will apply clinical judgment to ensure patient safety, manage immediate post-procedure needs, and support smooth handoffs within the care team while working a consistent 36-hour evening schedule.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities

• Conduct thorough preoperative assessments, review histories, and confirm readiness for procedures
• Establish intravenous access, administer ordered medications, and complete final preparations with patients
• Continuously monitor vital signs, airway status, pain levels, and overall recovery in the PACU setting
• Recognize early signs of complications and initiate appropriate nursing interventions
• Provide clear education to patients and families about recovery expectations and home care steps
• Coordinate closely with anesthesia providers, surgeons, and other team members for efficient care transitions
• Document all clinical findings, interventions, and patient responses accurately and promptly

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse licensure appropriate for practice in Massachusetts
• Current Basic Life Support certification
• Demonstrated clinical assessment and critical-thinking skills suited to preoperative and recovery environments
• Capacity to manage evening shifts totaling 36 hours each week
• Strong interpersonal and patient-teaching abilities
• Prior experience in Pre-Op, PACU, or comparable supervised recovery nursing is preferred
