Director of Engineering

Xealth, a leading digital health platform trusted by over 500 hospitals, is seeking a Director of Engineering in Seattle, WA to lead engineering strategy and team growth. This full-time role combines hands-on technical leadership with team building for an engineering leader ready to drive execution at scale.

About This Position

Xealth embeds digital care capabilities into major healthcare systems' electronic health records, enabling clinicians to prescribe and monitor digital solutions at the point of care. You'll guide our engineering organization through significant growth while maintaining code quality, security rigor, and architectural excellence required in regulated healthcare. You'll work closely with our CTO in a collaborative leadership model where technical depth and strategic vision both matter.

Your Responsibilities

• Lead and expand engineering teams through hiring, performance management, and career development
• Direct technical execution across product lines, setting architectural direction and partnering with Product leadership
• Make foundational decisions on cloud infrastructure, distributed systems design, and security architecture for HIPAA-compliant AWS services
• Establish and evolve engineering standards—code review practices, incident management, documentation
• Operationalize AI-powered development tools and agentic coding practices to increase productivity without compromising quality or security
• Coordinate with Security, Compliance, and Customer Success on engineering priorities and regulatory alignment
• Communicate technical strategy and tradeoffs to executive stakeholders and the board

Requirements

Essential:

• 10+ years as a hands-on software engineer before moving into leadership
• Proven track record managing and scaling engineering teams of 5-25+ people through growth and complexity
• Deep practical knowledge of AWS infrastructure and cloud-native design for building resilient, scalable distributed systems
• Comfort with modern architectural approaches (microservices, event-driven systems, API design)
• Working knowledge of security and compliance in regulated industries
• Tangible hands-on experience adopting AI coding assistants or LLM-based tools in professional workflows
• Strong leadership and communication skills with both technical teams and non-technical stakeholders

Preferred:

• SaaS experience in healthcare or other regulated industries
• Knowledge of healthcare data standards (FHIR, HL7) or EHR integrations
• HIPAA compliance and healthcare data security experience
