Prime System Solutions is seeking a Systems Engineer (Level II) to join our team in a fully remote position based in South Africa. This is an exciting opportunity to take on greater technical responsibility, leading infrastructure initiatives and mentoring junior team members whilst working with modern systems and technologies.
About This Position
As a Level II Systems Engineer, you will own the design, deployment, and optimisation of our infrastructure systems. This role bridges hands-on technical work and higher-level architectural decisions, positioning you as a subject-matter expert within the infrastructure team. You'll work with both established and emerging technologies to ensure our systems remain scalable, reliable, and secure. Your contributions will directly influence how our platforms perform and evolve.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement infrastructure solutions that meet performance, reliability, and security requirements
- Manage configuration, monitoring, and troubleshooting of production systems across multiple environments
- Document system architecture, runbooks, and operational procedures to support team knowledge sharing
- Collaborate with software engineers and DevOps specialists to optimise deployment pipelines and system integration
- Identify performance bottlenecks and implement tuning strategies to improve system efficiency
- Participate in on-call rotations and incident response to resolve critical system issues
- Review and mentor junior engineers, sharing technical knowledge and best practices
What We're Looking For
- 3–5 years of hands-on systems engineering or infrastructure operations experience
- Strong knowledge of Linux system administration, networking fundamentals, and storage systems
- Proficiency with infrastructure-as-code tools and configuration management platforms
- Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, or equivalent)
- Solid understanding of databases, caching layers, and data persistence patterns
- Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot complex, multi-layered systems
- Clear communication and ability to document technical decisions and processes
