Advanced Specialist, Government Relations

Pearson is seeking an Advanced Specialist, Government Relations to support its US Government Relations function in Hoboken, Hudson County. In this full-time role, you'll track and analyze state-level policy landscapes, deliver strategic insights, and help shape how Pearson engages with government stakeholders in a complex, regulated industry.

Role Overview

The Advanced Specialist, Government Relations plays a critical role in Pearson's strategy across state legislative and regulatory environments. You'll monitor policy developments, synthesize government information, and provide actionable analysis that informs executive decision-making. This position requires both deep research capability and the ability to translate policy nuance into business-relevant recommendations that guide government engagement efforts.

Your Responsibilities

• Monitor and analyze state-level legislative and regulatory developments relevant to Pearson's business
• Conduct policy research and prepare briefings on emerging government initiatives and stakeholder positions
• Support the development and execution of government relations strategy across key state markets
• Synthesize complex policy information into clear, actionable insights for senior leadership
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to assess policy impact and identify strategic opportunities
• Track regulatory changes and help ensure Pearson's compliance and engagement efforts align with business objectives

Skills & Qualifications

• 3+ years of experience in government relations, public policy, legislative analysis, or related field
• Strong research, analytical, and written communication skills
• Deep understanding of state legislative and regulatory processes
• Ability to synthesize complex policy information and identify strategic implications
• Experience with policy databases, legislative tracking tools, and research platforms
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-moving environment
• Bachelor's degree in political science, public policy, law, business, or related field (or equivalent professional experience)
