Graduate Engineer III – Land Development

LJA Engineering, a 100% employee-owned firm, is hiring a Graduate Engineer III - Land Development professional to join our team at our Oak Ridge North office in Montgomery County. This full-time position offers the opportunity to develop your engineering expertise while contributing to meaningful infrastructure and development projects.

What This Role Involves

As a Graduate Engineer III in Land Development, you'll support the design and planning of civil infrastructure projects from conception through completion. You'll work alongside experienced engineers to analyze site conditions, evaluate regulatory requirements, and develop solutions that balance project goals with environmental and community considerations. This role bridges your education and professional growth, providing structured mentorship while building competency in technical analysis, project coordination, and professional communication.

What You'll Do

• Assist in preparing site plans, grading plans, and infrastructure drawings using industry-standard software
• Conduct field surveys and site investigations to gather data for project analysis
• Review municipal codes, zoning regulations, and environmental requirements relevant to land development
• Support senior engineers in feasibility studies and design alternatives evaluation
• Coordinate with clients, municipal agencies, and design team members on project updates
• Prepare technical memoranda and reports documenting analysis and recommendations
• Contribute to construction administration and site inspection activities

What We're Looking For

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field
• Strong technical drawing and CAD skills
• Solid understanding of civil design principles and site development fundamentals
• Excellent written and verbal communication abilities
• Detail-oriented approach to technical documentation and accuracy
• Ability to work effectively in collaborative team environments
• Professional Engineer (PE) licensure or active pursuit of EIT/PE credentials preferred
