Student Specialist for Veteran Services (Part-Time)

Mt. Hood Community College is hiring a Student Specialist for Veteran Services on a part-time basis in Gresham to provide essential support and resources to student veterans and their eligible dependents pursuing their educational goals.

About the Role

As a Student Specialist for Veteran Services at Mt. Hood Community College in Gresham, Multnomah County, you'll serve as the direct point of contact for military-connected students seeking campus resources, navigating educational pathways, and accessing veteran-specific benefits and support. This part-time position is fundamental to helping veteran students build community, persist through their studies, and achieve academic success.

What You'll Do

• Deliver direct, personalized support and guidance to student veterans and eligible dependents
• Conduct outreach activities to raise awareness of veteran services and campus resources
• Provide appointment-based consultations to assist with benefits navigation and educational planning
• Coordinate referrals to campus and community resources, including academic support, counseling, and financial aid
• Help connect veteran students to veteran-centered programs, peer support groups, and campus involvement opportunities
• Maintain accurate records and communicate veteran student needs across campus departments
• Support the development and delivery of veteran-focused initiatives and events

What We're Looking For

• Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build trust with diverse student veterans
• Knowledge of veteran benefits, military culture, or prior experience working with military-connected populations (preferred)
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently in a part-time capacity
• Experience with appointment scheduling, recordkeeping, and resource coordination
• Genuine commitment to supporting underserved and veteran student populations
• Proficiency with computer systems and willingness to learn new software tools
• Must be available to work on-site at our Gresham location
