Kaiser Permanente is seeking a dedicated Nursing Professional Development specialist (Nurse Educator) to join the Surgical Services team at Westside Medical Center in Orenco, Washington County. In this full-time position, you'll partner with clinical leaders to design, deliver, and evaluate educational programs that elevate nursing competency, advance professional growth, and strengthen patient care across our surgical units.
About the Role
As the Nurse Educator for Westside Medical Center's Surgical Services, you'll be the driving force behind developing and implementing targeted learning initiatives that address gaps in nursing knowledge, clinical skills, and professional practice. You'll assess the learning needs of our surgical nursing staff, design curricula tailored to their roles and experience levels, and create meaningful educational experiences that drive continuous improvement in clinical outcomes and staff engagement.
What You'll Do
- Conduct comprehensive competency assessments to identify individual and departmental learning needs across the Surgical Services unit
- Develop and deliver evidence-based education programs addressing clinical skills, new technology, regulatory compliance, and professional practice standards
- Collaborate with Surgical Services leadership, nurse managers, and clinical teams to design targeted interventions for staff who don't meet established competency expectations
- Evaluate the effectiveness of educational initiatives and adjust programs based on outcomes and feedback
- Mentor and support nurses in their professional development and career advancement within the organization
- Stay current with evolving clinical best practices and integrate new evidence into educational offerings
What We're Looking For
- Active RN license in Washington State
- Substantial clinical nursing experience, preferably in surgical services or acute care settings
- Experience in or demonstrated interest in nursing education, staff development, or clinical training
- Strong communication and presentation skills; ability to engage diverse nursing audiences
- Proven ability to assess learning needs, design curricula, and evaluate educational effectiveness
- Proficiency with learning management systems and educational technology
- Commitment to fostering inclusive, supportive learning environments
- Excellent organizational and project management abilities
