County of Sacramento is hiring full-time attorneys to strengthen its Civil Division in Sacramento, California. This is an excellent opportunity to deliver essential legal services to county government across multiple experience levels, from entry-level through senior attorney positions.
About the Role
The County of Sacramento Civil Division seeks experienced and dedicated attorneys to provide comprehensive legal counsel and representation. This full-time attorney position is open at multiple experience levels (Level I, II, III, and IV), each with distinct qualifications, responsibilities, and compensation. A 3.35% management differential is added to all posted salaries for this classification.
What You'll Do
- Provide legal counsel and opinions to county departments, officials, and agencies on civil matters and governance issues
- Represent the County of Sacramento in civil litigation, administrative proceedings, and hearings
- Draft, review, and negotiate contracts, agreements, and legal documents on behalf of the county
- Conduct thorough legal research and analysis on complex civil law questions
- Advise county leadership on legal implications of proposed policies, procedures, and actions
- Handle public records matters and legal discovery in coordination with county departments
What We're Looking For
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school
- Active membership and good standing with the State Bar of California
- Excellent legal writing, research, and analytical skills
- Experience in civil litigation, government legal practice, or related legal work (extent varies by level)
- Strong oral and written communication abilities
- Ability to manage multiple complex matters and meet demanding deadlines
Compensation & Hiring Process
Salary is commensurate with experience level. Level I attorneys earn $11,689.32 monthly, while Level II positions start at $13,448.50 monthly, with higher compensation for Level III and IV roles. This recruitment uses a continuous filing examination process with bi-annual filing cut-offs on the third Thursday of June and December. The next filing deadlines are 5:00 p.m. on June 18, 2026 and December 17, 2026.
