Pure Storage is hiring a Principal Economist, GTM Science in Chicago. As a Principal Economist, you'll lead data-driven economic research and strategy that shapes how we compete, price, and win in the enterprise data storage market.
About the Role
In this senior role, you'll be the quantitative voice guiding our go-to-market strategy. You'll translate market dynamics and customer economics into actionable insights that inform product positioning, pricing, and competitive strategy. This is hands-on economic science—building models, testing hypotheses, and delivering rigorous analysis that executives rely on to make high-stakes decisions.
What You'll Do
- Conduct rigorous economic analysis of the storage market, competitive landscape, and customer value drivers
- Develop and refine pricing models and go-to-market strategies grounded in economic principle and data
- Build financial models and business cases that quantify market opportunities and customer ROI
- Research market trends, customer purchasing behavior, and economic factors shaping enterprise IT spending
- Partner with product, sales, and strategy teams to inform launch strategy and competitive positioning
- Present findings and recommendations to senior leadership with clarity and rigor
What We're Looking For
- Advanced degree in Economics, Finance, Statistics, or related quantitative field
- Proven experience in economic analysis, pricing strategy, or go-to-market science
- Strong command of econometric methods, statistical modeling, and data analysis
- Experience translating complex economic and financial analysis into business strategy
- Excellent communication skills—able to explain sophisticated analysis to diverse audiences
- Intellectual curiosity and commitment to evidence-based decision making
