Join New Haven Ecology Project as a full-time Social Studies teacher (1.0 FTE) in Westville, New Haven County. You'll teach high school students at one of America's most established environmental charter schools, working in a learning community built on place-based education and nearly 30 years of proven excellence.
About the Role
This full-time position offers you the chance to lead Social Studies instruction in a distinctive school environment. You'll develop curriculum that connects civic understanding, historical thinking, and environmental awareness, using our 20-acre campus and working urban farm as living classrooms for applied, experiential learning.
What You'll Do
- Design and teach Social Studies courses that develop student critical thinking about history, civics, social systems, and environmental justice
- Employ place-based and experiential approaches, integrating our campus landscape and urban farm into meaningful instruction
- Collaborate across disciplines to weave environmental, agricultural, and social understanding into coherent student learning
- Create inclusive, culturally responsive instruction that meets diverse learners where they are
- Contribute to school community through student mentorship, advisory support, and culture-building work
What We're Looking For
- Valid Connecticut teaching certification in Social Studies, History, or related secondary field
- Proven ability to design rigorous, standards-based curriculum and instruction
- Commitment to environmental education and place-based learning methods
