About the Role

The Account Clerk I – Water Accounting position is responsible for processing, maintaining, and reconciling water utility accounts and billing records for City of Livonia customers. You'll work within the Finance or Utilities Department, ensuring accurate financial records and timely customer account management. This role is foundational to the City's water service operations and requires attention to detail, accuracy, and reliability.

What You'll Do

• Process water billing and customer account transactions using municipal accounting systems
• Reconcile account balances and investigate discrepancies in water meter readings and charges
• Maintain detailed records of water usage data, payments, and account adjustments
• Prepare billing documentation and customer correspondence related to water accounts
• Verify calculations and ensure compliance with City accounting standards and procedures
• Respond to routine customer inquiries regarding accounts and billing
• Support year-end closing and audit procedures as needed
• Assist with data entry and report generation for water revenue tracking

What We're Looking For

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Demonstrated experience with data entry, accounting, or financial record-keeping
• Proficiency in spreadsheet applications and municipal or accounting software
• Strong organizational and mathematical skills with a commitment to accuracy
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines independently
• Professional communication skills and a collaborative approach with colleagues and customers
• Familiarity with municipal utilities or government accounting is a plus

Compensation and Benefits

Annual salary ranges from $51,064 to $56,534, with starting compensation at $51,064. Salary increases occur after six months, one year, and three years of successful employment, with potential additional adjustments based on collective bargaining agreements.
