Montgomery County VA School District seeks an experienced Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing to join our special education team in Christiansburg, Virginia for the 2026-2027 school year. This full-time position offers the opportunity to transform learning for deaf and hard-of-hearing students across our school division, providing specialized instruction and supporting their academic and social success within inclusive educational settings.

About the Role

As Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, you'll deliver specialized instruction to students with hearing impairments, working across multiple school buildings within Montgomery County to ensure every deaf and hard-of-hearing learner has access to high-quality, accessible education. Collaborating closely with classroom teachers, school counselors, and families, you'll create an educational environment where students thrive both academically and socially.

What You'll Do

  • Teach deaf and hard-of-hearing students using research-based instructional strategies, adapting curriculum and materials to meet diverse communication and learning needs
  • Develop and implement Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) aligned with each student's communication preferences and academic goals
  • Provide direct instruction in American Sign Language (ASL), English literacy, and core academic subjects
  • Collaborate with general education teachers to support inclusion and remove barriers to classroom participation
  • Work with families, interpreters, and audiological specialists to coordinate comprehensive student support
  • Assess student progress and adjust instruction to ensure measurable academic and functional gains
  • Advocate for accommodations, assistive technology, and accessible resources within school buildings

What We're Looking For

  • Virginia teaching certification in Deaf and Hard of Hearing or Special Education (or eligibility to obtain certification)
  • Bachelor's degree in education, deaf education, or related field
  • Fluency in American Sign Language
  • Demonstrated expertise working with deaf and hard-of-hearing students across grade levels and communication modalities
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills with families, educators, and school teams
  • Knowledge of assistive listening devices, hearing aid technology, and accessibility best practices
