Xcel Energy is hiring a Transmission Designer I in Amarillo to support the design and planning of transmission infrastructure. As an entry-level member of our engineering team, you'll contribute to projects that keep power flowing reliably across our service territory while developing your career in utility infrastructure design.
About the Role
This is a full-time position where you'll work on the design and layout of transmission lines and electrical and gas distribution systems. You'll collaborate with experienced engineers and technical teams to support real-world projects that serve our communities, learning industry standards and best practices on the job.
What You'll Do
- Assist with the design and drafting of transmission line routing and configurations
- Support electrical distribution system design and modifications
- Contribute to gas distribution infrastructure planning and documentation
- Work with engineering teams to develop technical drawings and specifications
- Participate in site assessments and field coordination activities
- Apply CAD software and other design tools under supervision
- Support compliance with industry codes, standards, and regulatory requirements
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, civil engineering, or related field (or equivalent technical background)
- Strong foundation in transmission and distribution design principles
- Proficiency with CAD software and design tools
- Knowledge of electrical systems, transmission infrastructure, or related utility operations
- Detail-oriented approach to technical work and documentation
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment
